MY WARDROBE STAPLES

We hear the phrase ‘wardrobe staples’ a lot these days when reading about fashion. They are the pieces in your wardrobe that pull the rest of it together, the ones you go to time and time again. Not everyone’s wardrobe staples are the same and they will very much depend on your personal style, lifestyle and what you do for a job.

Yours may be very different to mine, but whatever your key pieces are this is where it’s worth investing. Once you’ve nailed your key pieces you’ll never be stuck for something to wear again and you’ll also lay the foundations of a style personality you can build on.

If you follow me on Instagram and see my daily outfit posts, you will notice there are a handful of styles, fabrics and colours that I wear consistently, these are the foundations of my style personality:

LEATHER

From jackets (I own 8 of them) to skirts and trousers, leather features heavily in my wardrobe. I wear it for both day and night, smart and causal. When it comes to my skirts and trousers I have a mixture of real and faux leather. I buy all my faux leather from Zara, as I personally think it’s the best on the high-street and I have some lovely real leather pieces from Topshop Boutique and Whistles, as well as some great vintage ones too.

SHIRTS

Despite them being a nightmare to iron, I love a good shirt and they are my go to top of choice. From plain to print (leopard, of course) I have a large selection and whenever I see one I like I don’t hesitate to buy it, as I know it will get worn over and over again. My go to stores MangoTopshop, and Zara.

DENIM

I’m sure most of you have got lots of denim in your wardrobe and I’m no exception. I’m lucky enough to be able to wear jeans for work as well as social, which is why they feature heavily in my wardrobe. I have a couple of key styles that work well for my body shape and personal style, and despite spending money on premium brands I still don’t think you can beat Topshop for jeans. I also love a denim jacket/waistcoat and use them a lot to layer underneath heavier outerwear.

JUMPSUIT

As I’ve said before I’m a separates girl at heart, but the jumpsuit is a great go to piece for those days when you want to look good, but without putting too much thought into it. Again, I wear them for both day and night, smart and casual.

TRAINERS AND ANKLE BOOTS

No matter what the season you’ll always find me rocking a pair of trainers or ankle boots. I like the edge a pair of ankle boots brings to an outfit and I love a pair of trainers for that sports luxe vibe. I also wear trainers for practicality and comfort reasons too – one because I’m a mama, but also because I’m on my feet with work (taking people shopping as a living sounds glamorous, but it’s tiring being on your feet for hours) so comfort is always key. My first port of call for ankle boots is Topshop and Office. I’ve a thing for Nike Internationalist trainers and I love my Puma high-tops.

BLACK, KHAKI AND LEOPARD PRINT

These are the foundation of my colour palette – they all mix and match well together and they are all timeless, but current at the same time. I know whenever I pick something in these colours they aren’t going to date, which makes them the perfect wardrobe staple for me.
